DAVID BUTT PHILIP IS IN THE HOUSE
It’s David Butt Philip season at St Paul’s Opera – later in February we have his Masterclass, a fascinating look at how good singers can be turned into great ones with guidance from a world class performer.
Then, in March, we are proud to announce another David Butt Philip And Friends Gala evening. Our Patron – affectionally known as DBP – returns on Thursday 23rd March, this time to sing with three other colleagues from the world of opera, with two equally talented pianists to provide elegant accompaniment for the evening.
Our line-up of singers are more used to the Royal Opera House, the New York Met, Wien Staatsoper and the ENO’s Coliseum, than St Paul’s Church just around the corner, but that’s where they’ll be next Thursday, singing for this vital fund raising event.
Joining tenor DBP, who has most recently been seen at the Royal Opera House as Prince in Rusalka, are soprano Natalya Romaniw (returning this week from singing the role of Tosca at Hamburg Staatsoper), mezzo-soprano Katie Stevenson (who finished a run at the ENO last week in the role of Flosshilde in The Rhinegold) and baritone Ross Ramgobin (also in Rusalka at the Royal Opera House in the role of Hajnŷ).
Taking place at St Paul’s Church, Rectory Grove, SW4 7OZ, the Gala Concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets (£30.00) are on sale via the link below. If last year’s event is anything to go by, you are advised to book early to avoid a sell-out disappointment.

Here are comments from three audience members who loved last year’s Gala and have already vowed to return this year.
“We very much enjoyed the Gala. The singing was superb - obviously up and coming stars. They sang many popular works - enjoyable for both singers and audience.”
“What a fabulous evening. How privileged we are to be able to wander round the corner to listen to such talented performers!”
“Thank you for a wonderful concert. The calibre of the singers was amazing. And I loved the mix of the programme. I’m a dedicated opera fan and have been for 40 years now so it was great to hear long time favourites along with a few pieces I didn’t know well, or in the case of the Rodgers & Hammerstein, not at all!”
