David Butt Philip Masterclass 2022
After an enforced break over the last two years we are delighted to announce David Butt Philip is back with St Paul’s Opera for his fourth Masterclass and we are most grateful to him for, once again, finding time in his increasingly busy international schedule for this event which is growing in popularity both with our candidates and audience.
Over the past 24 months despite the obvious COVID obstacles, David has appeared on many of the world’s top operatic stages including, in 2020, the Royal Opera House’s lockdown performance of Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, and Rodolfo in ENO’s open air production at Alexandra Palace of Puccini’s La Bohème. Then, in 2021, he made his debut at New York’s Metropolitan Opera as Grigory in Boris Godunuv and sang in Washington National Opera’s celebratory concerts marking the re-opening of the Kennedy Centre. In May 2022, David will return to the Met for the US premier of Brett Dean’s Hamlet, in the role of Laertes. His 2022/2023 season will also include house debuts at the Wiener Staatsoper and San Francisco Opera, as well a return to the Royal Opera House in a major new production.
Our Masterclass candidates are:
Fiona Hymns – Soprano
Anna Marmion – Soprano
Alex Akhurst – Tenor
Martins Smaukstelis – Tenor

Our pianist for the evening is Panaretos Kyriatzidis
