Make your body sing – join our free webinar on Wednesday, July 8

During lockdown SPO has continue dialogue with you, our audience, through our virtual concerts. We have also kept the lines of communication with our Albert Herring cast continuously buzzing, and particularly so with a cast member who may well be known to members of our audience who are Clapham-based.

Owain Evans sang the role of Antonio in our production of Le Nozze di Figaro last summer, and is cast as Mr Gedge, the vicar in Albert Herring. When not an extremely hard-working baritone, his ‘day job’ is proprietor of chiropractor clinic BACK SPACE, based in Clapham Park Road. (Read his biog below.)

Next Wednesday, July 8th, Owain will host and present a webinar entitled anatomy of a singer combining his two passions as singer and chiropractor.

Owain will give us a very informal introduction to anatomy and physiology for singers. Using 3D imagery on a shared screen, he will show us the anatomy of the diaphragm and abdominal cavity, discussing how the muscles of the abdomen and chest function to affect breath pressure. He will discuss posture and the spine, as well as the jaw, larynx, and tongue, and how knowledge of the function of these essential structures can help singers to gain deeper understanding of their instrument. The session will last around an hour and will be held via Zoom. To join this Zoom webinar send a request to our email: info@stpaulsopera.org.

Whether you are a professional singer, an aspiring vocal student, a choir member or a budding rock star – or even if you're none of the above – you will find this a fascinating insight into the workings of our bodies in the making of beautiful sound. Do join us!

With very best wishes
