It was an emotional day for St Paul’s Opera, returning to live music making at our outdoor Picnic Gala last Saturday (5th September) in the late summer sunshine.

Our late summer picnic gala of opera favourites from St Paul's Opera soloists in the beautiful grounds of St Paul's Church, Clapham.
We are so delighted, and relieved, to return to live performance with this late summer picnic opera gala. The concert will be held in the lower churchyard at St Paul's Church, Clapham..

For our fifth night of music we have a pot pourri of styles including baroque, German lied, a couple of Bellini Bel Canto arias and some beautiful French offerings from Massenet, Debussy and Berlioz... oh, and a 'deliberate' mistake in the introduction – a free drink at the bar at our next live concert (whenever that may be) for the first person to spot it!

During lockdown SPO has continue dialogue with you, our audience, through our virtual concerts. We have also kept the lines of communication with our Albert Herring cast continuously buzzing, and particularly so with a cast member who may well be known to members of our audience who are Clapham-based.

For our fourth Friday night virtual concert our talented musicians turn their attention to Germany with lieder from Schumann and Schubert, a Kienzl operetta, some stonking Wagner and a charming Mendelssohn 'song without words'.

For our third Friday night virtual concert we celebrate the music of Benjamin Britten – a nod to our postponed summer opera festival, Albert Herring. Tonight our musicians perform favourite pieces from the Britten repertoire.
